Carlos Bermejo’s musical initiation was as guitarist in pop, rock and jazz groups. He studied composition with Mauricio Sotelo in Madrid and Helmut Lachenmann and Marco Stroppa at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart. He has also attended courses with composers such as Brian Ferneyhough, Beat Furrer, Hughes Dufourt, Gérard Grisey, Georg Friedrich Haas, Tristan Murail, Salvatore Sciarrino, etc. Bermejo’s works have been performed in cycles in Spain, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy and Argentina. He has taken part in courses, seminars, lectures and round tables on composition for the Spanish National Youth Orchestra (JONDE), the Architecture School of San Pablo C.E.U. University in Madrid, the University of Salamanca Fine Arts Faculty, the Toledo Architecture School, Carlos III University, the Madrid Goethe Institute, etc. He has written articles for specialised journals such as Doce Notas, InDesAr (Investigar desde el Arte), Reia, Espacio Sonoro and programme notes for JONDE concerts, Centre for the Diffusion of Contemporary Music cycles, the National Auditorium and the Goethe Institute in Madrid. As musical coordinator, Carlos Bermejo was Artistic Director of the 2013 Toledo MUT.E festival and has organised concerts for the Fisac Foundation, M.A.E.T Encounters in Toledo 2012, Salamanca Pontificia University, etc. His works have been recorded for the La Sibila Art and Culture Magazine and on the Verso record label.
